Fremantle Festival
Fremantle Festival is the principal community event held in Fremantle each year. It is a celebration of the stimulating and colourful culture that enriches Fremantle and fosters participation of all cultural, ethnic, arts and community groups.
The first Fremantle Festival was held in 1905 and over the past one hundred years has retained the tradition of celebrating the things that contribute to making Fremantle such a unique place in which to live, work and play.
Fremantle Festival 2007 will be showcased in venues and streets across Fremantle from 17 to 26 November.
The theme for this year’s Festival is “Animate” a fabulous feast of colour light, sound and movement to stimulate and celebrate Fremantle’s link with it’s community. It will be lively, entertaining, stimulating, humorous and above all – Fun!
Our festival program this year will reflect the spirit of Fremantle and offer remarkable choices, from the stimulating, entertaining and engaging to the wild and wacky. There is something for everybody.
The festival events commence on Friday 16 November and continue over nine days, featuring performances, music, dance, comedy, visual arts, street theatre, workshops and activities culminating on Sunday 25 November. All your favourites are over two weekends so you can get to everything!
Fremantle Festival’s longevity is due to the continued partnership and enthusiasm of our stakeholders and community. As Fremantle Festival planning gets underway for 2007, we invite the community to come forward and get involved. Applications are now open for proposals for inclusion in this year’s Festival.
Based on the theme ‘Illuminate’ the Festival extends an invitation to the community to show us how they are connected to each other, and to the rest of the world. These can be in the form of a specific performance, event, activity or exhibition.
Fremantle Festival 2007 runs from 16 – 25 November, with the annual Lotterywest Street Parade on Sunday 18 November.
