Fremantle Community Fringe Festival 8 – 16 November 2008

The Fremantle Community Fringe Festival incorporates a variety of community-initiated events, leading up to the main Fremantle Festival weekend.

The Fringe Festival showcases the community, coming together to celebrate Fremantle and the creative spirit of its people.

Community organisations will have the opportunity to nominate their events for inclusion in the Community Fringe Festival. Events nomination forms will be available in late July. For more information, click here .

The City is able to support community event organisers by including nominated events in the Community Fringe Festival events listing and through the general publicity for the Festival.

Fremantle Festival 14 – 16 November

The City of Fremantle is responsible for the general publicity and promotion of the festival as well as the printing and distribution of the festival program.

The City also coordinates a number of free events within the festival. In 2008 these free events will include the Festival Opening Event, Wardarnji Aboriginal Cultural Celebration, Youth Event, Lotterywest Street Parade & Carnival and the Bhangra Street Dance Party

Theme

The theme for the 2008 Fremantle Festival is TRANSFORM

We want the 2008 Festival to come to life with people really inspired by how Fremantle is transforming in so many ways. It’s also a chance to celebrate the transformation the city has undergone since the first festival in 1905, and to look forward to the Fremantle of the future.

Background

The first Fremantle Festival was held in 1905, held to celebrate the introduction of electric light in Fremantle. Each festival builds on the tradition of celebrating the things that make Fremantle the unique place it is today.
