"UTHANDO" Project
Uthando is the isi-Zulu word for love.

Throughout the Fiesta, children will dress a pre-made doll with pre-made clothing and can also decorate an item of clothing for the UTHANDO doll which will be sent to KwaZulu Natal.  Children can provide a name Zulu or other & message with their doll.  The activity will also explain where and why the dolls 'travel' to and give a global perspective.

The idea for the project came about as overburdened caregivers often need encouragement to find a place for play in their relationship with their children.  Play is a vital part of every child's experience - necessary for healthy development and many children living in KZN have never had a doll of their very own.

This is an opportunity for the Children’s Fiesta to be aware of the global community and how children can help create a difference in the world.

The project simply invites international members of the human family to make a doll for a Zulu child.
